All students in the affected sections are encouraged to take note of the topics indicated below. If you have not been advised yet by the respective teachers of the topic and the outline, please see your respective teacher and get explanations as soon as you can. If you have been advised of the topic and the outline already you should start preparing your outlines over the weekend. Please do not leave the assignments too late because time will run out and you will look for excuses to give to your respective teachers for incomplete assignments. The due date for these batch of assignments will be the Friday of Week 9. That is exactly 3 weeks from now. Apart from these other assessment tasks such as tests, extended homework and project activities will continue right up to Week 10. According to the assessment chart one subject has already collected 100 marks while others are slowly making their way towards the 100 mark target. Most subject marks are between 50 and 100 marks. In week 10 all subjects in the Middle School and the High School section will be given end of term examinations. Apart from working on the major assignment and studying for tests students should also be preparing for the coming end of Term 1 examination.
Early Learning Center (ELC) & Junior School News
ELC BUS DROP OFF
Starting next week Monday (16/03/09) the ELC children will have a separate drop off time from the Junior School and the Middle School children. From Mondays to Thursdays they will be dropped off at 2:00 pm and on Fridays they will be dropped off at 1:00 pm. The points of drop off will be the same. This arrangement was made to ease overcrowding in the bus for all the students at one time. Parents and guardians of the ELC children are to take note of this arrangement and should be at the pick up point one hour early to pick up the children.
To the parents and guardians of those children who are picked up in the school, we are reminding you again to come on time and pick up your child.
You would also notice that we are building an extension out from the ELC classroom towards the rest house. This extension is for the convenience of the children to leave their shoes during wet days and for shelter for parents to pick up your child/children.

LC AND JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS ELC: Children numbers in the ELC section (Grades Play—1) has steadily increased up to 55 as of today's count. With their two teachers, Mrs. Kelaga and Miss Barnabas, they have settled in and are now learning new things. This week the Play and Pre School children were coloring different animals and tracing numbers from one to nine. Most of them have leant to hold the pencil correctly and are also working on identifying colors with common objects and animals. A reminder to parents and guardians to make available a handkerchief to the children for personal health and hygiene reasons. We would also like to encourage parents to pack enough food for your child's lunch and at least some fruits as a way of maintaining balance in their eating habits. |
DEBATE
This week Wednesday we had a debate between the Humanities and the Math and Science students on the topic “ Gambling is the cause of poverty in PNG”. The Math and Science students comprised of Sandy Pupune, Hellen Inne and Glenda Vise while the Humanities team had Christina Kaman, Ben Laki and Zonya Goasa. The preparation leading up to the debate favored the Humanities students who were going for the topic, however, the Math and Science students decided otherwise and put up a good challenge that saw the Judges score going 739/900 for the Humanities and 665/900 for the Math & Science students. The Humanities students managed to hold off the challenge and came out winners in this round. Our next debate will be held in Week 8 between the grade 11’s. We are hoping that with the good number of students in grade 11 taking Mathematics and Science courses this year the tide will favor the Mathematics and Science students. Next week Wednesday we will have Quiz for the Grade 9’s who will be competing in their house colors. The last quiz session was won by the Flemming, and we predict the Moore to come out winners this time.
CLUB ACTIVITIES
Our club activities are continuing especially with students in Grades 9 and 10. This week the Art & Craft club experienced an influx in the number of students , however, we are informed by the club coordinator that they have limited materials for the continuing members and so would not take in any more students who would like to sign up. So please stick to the original club which you have signed up for. If you have not signed up for a club intentionally, and if you are identified, we will call in your parents to the school and you can explain your reasons to them.
SPORTS
FRIDAY SPORTS
Our Friday sports program last week was affected due to the inter school sports carnival. Our boys took part in the carnival in basketball, however, were outplayed by the competitors due to the time span for training purposes. We are hoping for an improved performance in other games throughout the year. Our Friday sports for the Middle School and the High School students today will depend on the ground conditions at NSI.
SCHOOLS SOCCER COMPETITION
The school’s soccer competition has postponed its proper rounds from this weekend to next weekend. Last weeks games were completed under rainy conditions and the rain has continued through out this week. As the organizing school we were informed by NSI that should the rain continues there would not be any games for this weekend. However, rather then leaving decisions too late, we were informed by the Secretary of the Schools soccer competition that all games for this weekend will be postponed to next weekend.
UPCOMING EVENT- REPORT WRITING DAY
Next week Wednesday (18/03/09) the school will have a non contact day of classes for all students to allow for teachers to work on the Term 1 reports uninterrupted. This term the school will be issuing Outcome reports on the performance of the students to the parents. To avoid inconveniences in terms of report preparation and classroom teaching by the teachers we are asking students to stay at home for one day only so that the teachers will spend the whole day to work on the reports. All students are to resume normal classes on Thursday 20/03/09. For those parents who want to do business with the school, the school office will open as usual. All these reports will be issued to the parents during the schools’ End of Term 1 closing assembly which will be on Thursday of Week 10.
Boarding students will not be allowed to sign out under any circumstances and will be required to stay on campus for the whole day.
Have an enjoyable weekend Mr. Huanaromo (Principal)
